Julia Kovalev is a pianist and musicologist. She holds a Master of Music degree from Petrozavodsk State Conservatory, Russia, and a Bachelor of Music degree from Chernigov Music College, Ukraine. Additionally, she has studied at Russian Institute for the History of the Arts in St. Petersburg, Russia, where she did postgraduate research in music history.
Ms. Kovalev enjoys a versatile teaching and performing career. She teaches piano, music theory and composition, and is experienced in teaching children of all ages and adults. Julia maintains a private studio in Pennington, NJ, and she is also on the faculty of Westminster Conservatory in Princeton, NJ. Besides that, she is a piano accompanist at Princeton Ballet School and a church choir director.
Julia’s first piano teacher, who truly inspired her for further music studies, was Larisa Kolesnik. Her other principal teachers were Larisa Soloshenko, Joseph Kon and Anna Porfirieva. Currently, Julia studies harpsichord with Gavin Black.
Julia Kovalev’s musicological research interests are focused around medieval music, music psychology, music for children and children’s music cognition.
