Walter Aparicio, Piano

A piano faculty member of New York University, distinguished piano teacher Walter F. Aparicio has performed solo and chamber music recitals in Bolivia under the sponsorship of the Vice Ministry of Culture and the Municipal Government of Bolivia as well as in Russia (International Academy of Music) and China (Beijing International Music Festival and Academy). Professor Aparicio made his New York Recital Debut at Weill Hall as part of Artists International Special Presentation Winners Series and received First Prize in the Bradshaw and Buono International Piano Competition, Duo Division in 2007.  He was also First Place Winner in the Empire State Piano Competition- Collegiate Division in 2003.  Professor Aparicio has been featured on Vermont Public Radio and on Channel 21-Gigavision in Bolivia. Moreover, he has participated in “Stop, Repair, Prepare: Variations on Ode to Joy for a Prepared Piano” by the artists Allora & Calzadilla at the Gladstone Gallery, NYC in 2009. He has coached and played in masterclasses for distinguished pianists such as John O' Conor, Jeffrey Swann, Martin Vojtisek, and Peter Hill. Walter will perform with the Orquesta Sinfónica Municipal de El Alto in La Paz, Bolivia August 2011.

Professor Aparicio holds a Master of Music from Manhattan School of Music, where he studied with Phillip Kawin. Prior to his studies at Manhattan, he earned a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance and Advanced Certificate in Music Education from New York University, majoring in piano with Dr. Deirdre O' Donohue.  He has been affiliated with the World Piano Pedagogy Conference and regularly adjudicates for NYSSMA [New York State School Music Association]. 
Professor Aparicio joined Hunterdon Academy of the Arts in 2011.  He is also on the Piano Faculty of the Bronx Conservatory, and maintains a private piano studio in Manhattan.
