Cathy H.

Director, Acting Program

Cathy is a drama education director and a classically trained actor. She holds a Master of Arts in Applied Theatre Education from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, University of London and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre Performance from Baylor University.

Before joining HAA, Cathy originated the position of Arts Director at a youth center in NYC. She designed and implemented a comprehensive arts program with a heavy emphasis on drama education, serving over 1,500 students. Her work garnered international recognition and is now featured in multiple books and conferences as “an innovative, unique and important contribution to the applied theatre practice”.  

As an actor, Cathy has performed principal roles in over 30 productions in London, NYC and Texas. Some of her favorite roles include Juliet in “Romeo and Juliet”, The Princess of France in “Love’s Labors Lost”,  Oliver in “As You Like It” and The White Witch in “The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe”. 

But as much as Cathy loves performing, her greater joy is teaching and empowering young people to shine!

She believes in a student-led curriculum and uses both classical acting technique and modern drama theories to help students set and achieve practical and aspirational goals. She is proficient in teaching Acting Technique, Audition Technique, Breath Control, Character Development, Devised Performance, Improvisation, Monologues, Movement, Script Analysis, Shakespeare and Classical Texts.
