Andrew D. is a brass teacher with over 10 years of professional playing experience and 8 years of teaching experience. Andrew graduated from Montclair State University with a B.A. in Jazz Studies. During his undergraduate program at Montclair State, Andrew D. had the opportunity to perform at Lincoln Center and Dizzy's Club Coca Cola with the New York Youth Symphony Big Band which featured such artists as Terrell Stafford, Stephon Harris, Scott Wendholt and more. Aside from a formal focus in jazz, he has played in many wind ensembles, wedding bands, classical small groups and has also been a part of the rock scene for the past 8 years. Andrew was a part of the NJ-based rock band Thank You Scientist where he wrote, arranged, and performed music internationally with the group. This included touring with bands such as Coheed and Cambria, Periphery, Glassjaw, and many more. Touring has given Andrew an insight on performance techniques and an emphasis on musicianship that he tries to instill in the students first and foremost. He likes to share his love of all genres with his students through listening examples for the classroom and outside of it. Not only has Andrew D. performed internationally but he has been featured on multiple albums in 2017 such as Thank You Scientist's 'Stranger Heads Prevail' that charted at #193 on the 'Billboard 200' chart and also reached #14 on Billboard's 'Top Rock Albums' chart in addition to writing and performing trumpet parts for The Dillenger Escape Plan in which that album peaked at #4 on Billboard's 'Top Rock Albums' chart. All of this performance experience helps Andrew D. with teaching students not only about their instrument but about how to play and make music with other people. Which he feels is just as important no matter the genre. With an emphasis on sound quality, tone and musicianship, Andrew D. pushes his students as far as they want to go and beyond.
